In movement we train for flexibility like a bamboo in the wind, for a strong center like the sturdy pine, and for the ability to flow like water. To this end we work alone, with partners, and at more advanced levels with multiple attackers.
Aikido is practiced with partners on a matted surface and every class begins with a stretch out to get students prepared for save movement. Practice is flexible too; Aikido can be practiced slowly and purposefully which is great for beginners and it can be stepped up to provide for a rigorous training session.
